Triple Tandem Pushchairs

Tandem style triple pushchairs are ones where the seats are lined up one in front of the other rather than side-by-side.  They have become increasingly popular in recent years, and particularly since our increasingly busily lives means that we need to be able to take our babies with us into every situation – and specifically through doors!  The advantage of a triple tandem pushchair is that the width of the pushchair when in use is generally around 60cm, as opposed to around 105cm for side-by-side models.  The disadvantage is that you will essentially be pushing a small tank in front of you, so maneuverability and weight will be key!  I strongly recommend testing models out in a store before researching the cheapest price online, so that you get a feel for the way they move, the weight etc.

Peg Perego Triplette Triple Tandem Pushchair – from £750

This is my favourite of the tandem triple pushchairs. Yes it is expensive – perhaps something that the grandparents can be asked to chip in with – but well worth it for its very stylish design and all its wonderful, extensive features. I especially like the fantastic “Steering Wheel” allowing you to steer the front wheels and also lock them when you need to; the steering wheel is also height adjustable (very useful if mum is 5ft and dad is 6ft).  The team at Peg Perego have really thought about how to make the tandem work for the parents with things like the brakes being centrally controlled, and the large sprung wheels that mean you can take the pushchair anywhere.   This triple pushchair comes with sun hoods, rain cover, foot muffs and a large shopping basket.  Also all the seats are suitable from birth to 3 years. It is 60cm wide when in use and 144 x 44 x 60cm when folded, and weighs 25kg. The only downside is that whilst it can be made into a travel system with the addition of compatible carrycots and car seats, you have to buy these separately – making this one of the most expensive kits on the market.

Inglesina Domino Triple Pram – from £649

At first glance the Inglesina Domino Triple seems like a reasonable and slightly more affordable alternative to the Peg Perego, but you need to look at the fine print.  Because if you are expecting to fill the seats with newborn triplets, this pushchair is not for you! This is because the seats that come with the chassis are only suitable for babies aged 6 months or older.  However if you purchase (at an extra cost) the Inglesina Extracombi seat that can be made into attachable carrycot or the Inglesina Huggy infant car seat, the system is then suitable for newborn twins with an older toddler, or two toddlers and a single newborn. So great product for twins and sibling, but no good for triplets. The other thing to consider is that whilst the chassis weighs just 15kg, with the various seat options this can rise to a rather hefty 30kg or more. Size wise it is 61cm wide, and 106 x 29 x 61cm when folded.
