Side by Side Pushchairs

Elsewhere I have reviewed the B12 Triple Pushchair and the OBaby Triple side-by-side style pushchairs, both of which are good options for children aged over 3 months.  But for those few out there specifically looking for a side by side pushchair suitable for triplets from birth there aren’t that many options on the market. I’ve basically only found two worth talking about, and they are vastly different, so here goes:

G3 Voyager – from £345

The G3 Voyager is a basic standard looking single pushchair times three!  The unique feature of the G3 is that it easily converts from a triple to a twin pushchair by unclipping one side of the pushchair (this detachable unit is not suitable, however, as a single pushchair).  The manufacturers suggest that the reason it is a great idea to have a detachable section because when it is in twin mode it will fit through doors – but that does not really figure if it means essentially taking the third baby out of the pushchair to go through a door.  To my mind the detachable aspect is far more useful if you have twin babies and a toddler, so that when the toddler is older and no longer needs a pushchair you can carry on using the G3 Voyager just as a twin.  However, the G3 is practical and sturdy; all three seats recline to almost flat making them suitable from newborn; it has shock absorbing systems on all the lockable swivel wheels and linked brakes; and it comes with three shopping baskets, sun hoods, rain covers and foot muffs.  At 22kg it is a bit on the heavy side, and it is 109cm wide when used as a triple and folds down to 111 x 27 x 66cm.

Mountain Buggy Urban Triple – from £919

The Mountain Buggy Urban Triple is the ultimate triple pushchair – a brand that is a firm favourite with celebrities who love its no-fuss, all-terrain, sporty-chic looks.  Clearly its price tag is also worthy of a celebrity wallet, but – and this is very important – this triple pushchair will take your triplets from newborn to 4 years old without any added extras! To my mind, that’s a great investment! Having said that, if money is no object and you want to go the whole hog there are also a number of lovely additional options to pimp out you babies’ ride – including the rather lovely carrycots (for triplets you’ll need a single and a double) which will allow you to easily carry your sleeping infants from pushchair to the indoors. Aside from its slick looks, the Mountain Buggy range are known for their excellent maneuverability and stability: the swivel front wheels can be easily locked for more challenging terrain; there is an adjustable ergonomic handlebar with a range of 25cm for pushers of varying heights; and the pushchair is a rather remarkable 19.6kg in weight.  The seats recline to almost flat, so fine for newborns, have the 5-point safety harnesses, and included are retractable sun canopies and a very large shopping basket.  It is 108cm wide, and 107 x 107 x 33cm when folded.
