If you’ve found this website, the chances are you’re looking for a triple pushchair because you either have or are expecting triplets, have a toddler with twins on the way, or have a third baby coming along and already have two little ones – whatever the reason you’ve come here: congratulations! If, like me, the thought of transporting three kids fills you both with mild panic and a slight sense of dread, then you’ve come to the right place.

When I was myself researching triple pushchairs, I found that so many websites were aimed towards either single or twin babies – there’s very little out there specifically for parents of triplets or parents of three very young children (even on retailing sites, the majority of triple pushchairs are categorized under ‘twin pushchairs’). So I’ve created this website to help you find the perfect triple pushchair to meet your very specific needs.

The good news is that there aren’t that many triple models on the market to confuse you; and it helps that some models are only suitable for certain situations. Given these decreased options, and the fact that you’ll have a lot of things to organise with three babies, it makes sense to make your research as specific as you can to avoid wasting time. So to start with, lets look at the basic criteria that you will have to consider before anything else.

Age: how old are your children going to be when they need the pushchair? Not all triple pushchairs are suitable from birth. Some are only suitable from three months, so if you’re expecting triplets what exactly are you going to do for the first three months, stay at home? On the other hand, those pushchairs that are suitable from 3 months may be the ideal solution for a holiday pushchair (you will, I’m sure be needing a holiday!).

There are also a couple of pushchairs on the market which are specifically designed for families with twins and a toddler, so it’s easy to discount those ones if you need all three seats to accommodate three newborns.

Another age related question is how long the pushchair will meet your needs – most triple pushchairs are OK to use until the age of 3, but there is one I have found which will go right up to 4 years!

Safety: all pushchairs should meet UK quality standards, but it pays to be sure. Make sure that the seats have a 5-point harness to keep your little ones safely in place, and then look to see if there are features within the chassis that make it easy to fold and handle. Also of particular importance with triple pushchairs, which are necessarily weightier than single ones, are the brakes; check that they are strong and lockable – the last thing you want is to be chasing a pushchair that has gotten away from you!

Usability: how well will the pushchair work for you? Is it easy to manoeuvre, can it get through doors, and is it ergonomically designed? You may find, that if you plan to use your pushchair a lot in urban environments that this is an overriding criteria – it may mean going for a tandem style triple pushchair where the seats are lined up one I front of the other as opposed to side by side. What size and weight is the pushchair – some are heavier than others, but more durable. What about the wheels – are they swivel or fixed, suitable for off-road, air-filled or solid? Other important considerations will be how easily and compactly your triple pushchair folds; whether all or just some of the seats can fully recline; whether there is the possibility to convert the pushchair into a travel system with the addition of car seats and carrycots; and finally how easy it is to clean?

Added extras: a triple pushchair can be a fairly costly investment, so what other bonuses are included? Does it have a shopping basket, rain covers, hoods, foot muffs? Will you have to buy other items such as car seats and carrycots separately to make the pushchair up into a travel system?

As you can see there is a lot to consider. So, now read my reviews of the main triple pushchair categories to see which pushchair meets your requirements.

As mentioned in the introduction, there are a few triple pushchairs on the market that do not cater for newborns and are in fact only suited for babies from 3 months old. These pushchairs tend to be of the side-by-side seat arrangement variety and have lightweight structures – indeed they appear to be primarily marketed towards nurseries or childminders (who are obliged to take their charges out for fresh air). But, as these triple pushchairs tend to be the least expensive, you could consider them for occasional use like when you go on holidays. As they are usually fine for children up to three years old, these pushchairs can accommodate any age configuration of three children that you have. There are two options, in my opinion, that fit the bill:

OBaby Triple – from £165

The OBaby Triple is by far the cheapest triple pushchair on the market and, with its no nonsense streamlined design, is a practical option for triplets from 3 months to 3 years old. It is relatively lightweight (19kg), has multi position seats with adjustable 5 point harnesses, a compact umbrella-style fold, lockable front swivel wheels and is made in wipe clean fabric. Added extras include the detachable sun hoods, a large shopping basket and a rain cover. You can get matching foot muffs, but at an extra cost. When folded it measures 102 x 60 x 35cm. All in all, a good cost-effective pushchair – perfect for short outings. The cons are that it is quite wide (at 105cm when in use) and unwieldy.

B12 Triple Buggy – from £276

The B12 Triple is a firm favourite with nurseries and childminders, perhaps because it has a an extra strong chassis tubing (apparently 50% thicker than standard pushchairs) that makes it stronger, more hard wearing, and easier to push. It is remarkably light at just 17kg, and has large sprung wheels with shock absorbing systems and sturdy brakes. The seats can be set in 5 different positions and all have 5-point harnesses. It also has an umbrella-style fold and, at 104cm, is a slightly less wide than the OBaby and is a little more compact when folded (120 x 65 x 22cm).

However, I’m not sure that the slightly narrower fit and lighter frame, makes up for the fact that there is no shopping basket or sun hoods, plus its is much more expensive than the OBaby and in my opinion, not at all stylish.

Tandem style triple pushchairs are ones where the seats are lined up one in front of the other rather than side-by-side. They have become increasingly popular in recent years, and particularly since our increasingly busily lives means that we need to be able to take our babies with us into every situation – and specifically through doors! The advantage of a triple tandem pushchair is that the width of the pushchair when in use is generally around 60cm, as opposed to around 105cm for side-by-side models. The disadvantage is that you will essentially be pushing a small tank in front of you, so maneuverability and weight will be key! I strongly recommend testing models out in a store before researching the cheapest price online, so that you get a feel for the way they move, the weight etc.

Peg Perego Triplette Triple Tandem Pushchair – from £750

This is my favourite of the tandem triple pushchairs. Yes it is expensive – perhaps something that the grandparents can be asked to chip in with – but well worth it for its very stylish design and all its wonderful, extensive features. I especially like the fantastic “Steering Wheel” allowing you to steer the front wheels and also lock them when you need to; the steering wheel is also height adjustable (very useful if mum is 5ft and dad is 6ft). The team at Peg Perego have really thought about how to make the tandem work for the parents with things like the brakes being centrally controlled, and the large sprung wheels that mean you can take the pushchair anywhere. This triple pushchair comes with sun hoods, rain cover, foot muffs and a large shopping basket. Also all the seats are suitable from birth to 3 years. It is 60cm wide when in use and 144 x 44 x 60cm when folded, and weighs 25kg. The only downside is that whilst it can be made into a travel system with the addition of compatible carrycots and car seats, you have to buy these separately – making this one of the most expensive kits on the market.

Inglesina Domino Triple Pram – from £649

At first glance the Inglesina Domino Triple seems like a reasonable and slightly more affordable alternative to the Peg Perego, but you need to look at the fine print. Because if you are expecting to fill the seats with newborn triplets, this pushchair is not for you! This is because the seats that come with the chassis are only suitable for babies aged 6 months or older. However if you purchase (at an extra cost) the Inglesina Extracombi seat that can be made into attachable carrycot or the Inglesina Huggy infant car seat, the system is then suitable for newborn twins with an older toddler, or two toddlers and a single newborn. So great product for twins and sibling, but no good for triplets. The other thing to consider is that whilst the chassis weighs just 15kg, with the various seat options this can rise to a rather hefty 30kg or more. Size wise it is 61cm wide, and 106 x 29 x 61cm when folded.

Elsewhere I have reviewed the B12 Triple Pushchair and the OBaby Triple side-by-side style pushchairs, both of which are good options for children aged over 3 months. But for those few out there specifically looking for a side by side pushchair suitable for triplets from birth there aren’t that many options on the market. I’ve basically only found two worth talking about, and they are vastly different, so here goes:

G3 Voyager – from £345

The G3 Voyager is a basic standard looking single pushchair times three! The unique feature of the G3 is that it easily converts from a triple to a twin pushchair by unclipping one side of the pushchair (this detachable unit is not suitable, however, as a single pushchair). The manufacturers suggest that the reason it is a great idea to have a detachable section because when it is in twin mode it will fit through doors – but that does not really figure if it means essentially taking the third baby out of the pushchair to go through a door. To my mind the detachable aspect is far more useful if you have twin babies and a toddler, so that when the toddler is older and no longer needs a pushchair you can carry on using the G3 Voyager just as a twin. However, the G3 is practical and sturdy; all three seats recline to almost flat making them suitable from newborn; it has shock absorbing systems on all the lockable swivel wheels and linked brakes; and it comes with three shopping baskets, sun hoods, rain covers and foot muffs. At 22kg it is a bit on the heavy side, and it is 109cm wide when used as a triple and folds down to 111 x 27 x 66cm.

Mountain Buggy Urban Triple – from £919

The Mountain Buggy Urban Triple is the ultimate triple pushchair – a brand that is a firm favourite with celebrities who love its no-fuss, all-terrain, sporty-chic looks. Clearly its price tag is also worthy of a celebrity wallet, but – and this is very important – this triple pushchair will take your triplets from newborn to 4 years old without any added extras! To my mind, that’s a great investment! Having said that, if money is no object and you want to go the whole hog there are also a number of lovely additional options to pimp out you babies’ ride – including the rather lovely carrycots (for triplets you’ll need a single and a double) which will allow you to easily carry your sleeping infants from pushchair to the indoors. Aside from its slick looks, the Mountain Buggy range are known for their excellent maneuverability and stability: the swivel front wheels can be easily locked for more challenging terrain; there is an adjustable ergonomic handlebar with a range of 25cm for pushers of varying heights; and the pushchair is a rather remarkable 19.6kg in weight. The seats recline to almost flat, so fine for newborns, have the 5-point safety harnesses, and included are retractable sun canopies and a very large shopping basket. It is 108cm wide, and 107 x 107 x 33cm when folded.

Most of the triple pushchairs I’ve reviewed on this site are perfectly adaptable for families with twin babies and a toddler – specifically the G3 Voyager and the Inglesina Domino Triple – although some can only be used from a certain age. There is, however, one option I have found that is specifically geared to this configuration of children, so I have given it its own review below.

T3 Triple Pushchair / Buggy with Toddler seat – from £525

Basically the T3 Triple Pushchair is completely unique in the market: a twin side-by-side pushchair that fits through standard doors with a detachable jockey seat for a toddler that is mounted above the twin carriage.

It is not a look that is readily familiar, but is a very practical solution for that in between stage where your toddler still needs carrying from time to time. When the toddler no longer needs a pushchair, the jockey seat is easily removed and you are left with a rather good-looking twin pushchair. This is also a great solution for childminders who may not always need to transport three children at a time.

The twin pushchair part has seats that are suitable from birth to 3 years; head huggers and five-point harnesses; retractable sun hoods, rain cover and foot muffs. The toddler seat also has a removable sun hood, rain cover and its own rather unique split leg foot muff. The system is pretty good for maneuverability with an adjustable handle, sturdy wheels with pneumatic tyres, and there is a very good-sized shopping basket underneath. The other great feature is that at a slim line 76cm wide, this pushchair will fit through standard doors; the only downsides are that it is rather heavy – 24kg – and to fold the pushchair for storage you have to remove the jockey seat first (though this is also foldable). All in all, a really unique design that offers both flexibility and practicality.
